lots, goes a long way towards
making you warmer overall. I have over the years collected a large
variety of coats for the changing seasons and for my varied activities.
If you can only afford one good winter coat, I recommend a knee
length wool or poly-filled coat that can be buttoned to the neck
and, if possible, is designed with a hood. You'll be amazed at the
difference the extra length makes, and you still have a fashionable
appearance.
I have always been fond of hoods as they don't seem to create the
static problem that a knit cap or scarf causes. For extra warmth,
especially if there's a wind, add ear muffs.
Layering is the key for any midweight winter coat. Make sure it
is loose fitting enough that a warm cardigan can be worn underneath
for more extreme days.
