Spring into Summer
As I look out over the barren landscape to the still snow-laden mountains, I wonder if spring will ever come. Despite a fairly mild winter, the cold is determined to linger.

The ever increasing daylight tells me that spring must be on the way. Yet, with Mother's Day only a few days away, the trees have only just begun to bud. But budding they are! Soon the slightest hint of green will be visible across the hills as I drive home from work, and the leaves will burst forth. The coming of new life.

With spring comes a flurry of activity. Its time to come out of the long winter's hibernation.

Yards and roadways must be cleared of the garbage that mysteriously appears with the melting of the snow. Soon grass and wildflowers will replace the whiteness of snow and the grays and browns of spring thaws.

With the coming of spring, summer follows shortly thereafter. Summer, my favorite time of year! With the neverending days, and short, sometimes non-existent nights, summer in Fairbanks, Alaska is an amazing thing.
